Elin Hilderbrand: Biography

Elin Hilderbrand

Elin Hilderbrand was born in Collegeville, Pennsylvania where she also grew up. She attended Johns Hopkins University. She used to work at The Writers’ Workshop at the University of Iowa where she was a teaching and writing fellow. She worked writing classified ads for a local paper before becoming a full time novelist.

All of Hilderbrand’s novels are set on or near to Nantucket Island. She draws inspiration from her local surroundings, as she writes about what she knows and sets her novels close to her own home. She has spoken in interviews about her memories of spending her summer vacations on Cape Cod where she would swim in the sea, dig homes for hermit crabs and collect pieces of sea glass. When she was 16 years old her father was killed in a plane crash and she was forced to spend her next summer working in a factory. She vowed that she would always try and allow herself a real summer every year from this day on. These memories of her early summers can be seen reflected in some of her novels.

Elin Hilderbrand has written a total of 16 romance novels, and a couple of novellas. She was nominated for the Romantic Novel of the Year Award in 2008 for her book, Barefoot.

Hilderbrand and her husband live on Nantucket Island with their three young children. She continues to produce extremely popular romance novels which are enjoyed by readers all over the world.
